My dream of visiting sunflower fields came true this past weekend and I’m still not over it. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to do a Pinterest-worthy sunflower field photoshoot. But come on, who doesn’t? Well, in my 27th year here on earth, it finally happened and today’s blog post will give you an inside look as to how it went. If you are planning to visit the sunflower fields this season, this is your guide to poses, ideas and inspiration. The sunflower season is short, so be sure to head to your local fields soon, before you miss them!
These photos were taken at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley, Pennsylvania.
First, I just have to say how seeing the sunflower fields took my breath away. I knew they were going to be beautiful, but I didn’t know just how beautiful. I was seriously overwhelmed by the beauty, and the size of the flowers. It was a sea of yellow and I just fell in love immediately. So, let’s talk about how to get the most out of a photoshoot and capture the best pics!

Outfit Ideas
I scoured Pinterest before deciding what to wear and I noticed I was drawn towards plan pieces. I’m not really big on patterns in general, but I think less is more when it comes to standing in a sea of flowers. I think you could play with texture though, like a flowy dress or skirt for example. Denim shorts and a white tank is also a super cute option. Do what makes you feel most like you and I guarantee your photos will come out the most natural. If I’m in an outfit that I’m not 100% comfortable in, the photos typically tell that story.

Pose Idea: Hands Up
Throw your hands up and move your body. My favorite photos are the ones where movement is involved. When thinking of poses, try to steer away from stationary positions. A mix of both is good, but movement allows the viewer to feel like they are right there with you in the image.
Interact with the Flowers
Try to interact with the subject, in this case, the flowers. These ones turned out to be some of my favorites. There’s something sweet and natural about this pose and for these, I suggest capturing them as a close up.
Run
This is my go-to pose when I’m running out of creative juices. Some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken are running towards the camera. I usually have the photographer (my husband) count and then slowly run towards the camera. Play with your settings on this one.
Play with your Hair
Find something that comes natural to you. For me, that is playing with my hair. I do it when I’m nervous and out of habit, so to me it feels natural. I always like the way these pictures turn out too.
I hope that you find this pose guide helpful and use these photos as inspiration. If you do go to a sunflower field this season, I’d love to see your photos! Be sure to tag me on Instagram (@sophiaidewald). I have a Pinterest board of photo inspiration that I am always adding to.
