My favorite part about our kitchen is these floating shelves. Gone are the days of a kitchen full of cabinets. If you are on Pinterest, everyone is gravitating towards opening up the space with beautifully decorated floating shelves. It truly makes the biggest difference. My favorite thing about them is that it provides an opportunity to spice up the kitchen with visible decor. Changing it up for the seasons has also been really fun too. So, the question is, how do you style floating shelves in the kitchen?
There are so many ways you can style them, and depending on your taste and flavor, you will find what works for you. My advice is to search Pinterest for inspo and determine what style you are going for. Personally, I like practical, neutral and pieces that work all year round. Instead of having to change the decor for every season, I just like being able to add to it when needed. Here are some of the things I added to our floating shelves in the kitchen.
How to Style Floating Shelves in the Kitchen
Drinking Glasses and Bowls
I love adding drinking glasses and bowls for two reasons: it looks pretty and it is easy to grab. Glasses, bowls, mugs, or whatever you use most often are great to put on the shelf so you can easily grab them on a day to day basis. Our coffee mugs and bowls are from the Noritake Colorware Collection and we absolutely love them. We got them from our wedding registry and they have been incredible – high quality and beautiful. The gray color adds a nice accent to our kitchen so we leave a few bowls and mugs out on display. We also added a few of our drinking glasses to create more of a diversified look.
Cutting Board
A custom cutting board is a great piece to add to the floating shelves. Since the bottom shelf is more practical, the top shelf we use for decor. I love the way the cutting board looks, and we also use it to serve food on special occasions.
Candle
I think a candle is a perfect item to put anywhere that you need to fill in space. This candle from Target is perfect because it’s small, fits our aesthetic and smells really good! Any candle works, but think about something that is going to look really nice – that way you can even keep the container once it’s empty.
Cork Jar
This one is my favorite! We had an empty jar sitting around the house and we just had the idea one day to start filling it with corks when we finished a bottle of wine. We always write a message on it regarding something that happened that day. It adds character, it’s personal and it will be really fun to look back on and read once it’s all full. I’ll link some jars below.
Letter Board
This letter board had been so nice to have in the house. I have moved it around but the floating kitchen shelves are my favorite spot for it. Different messages can be added for every occasion – holidays, birthdays, etc. I love it so much.
Fruit or Vegetable
We always keep our avocados up on the shelf and I love the way it looks. To me, I like how they are dark in color and don’t make too much of a bold statement but it gives the kitchen that fresh feeling.
