Who’s excited that we are at the tail end of 2020? I sure am. This time of year always has me feeling extra motivated to set new goals and shift my focus for the upcoming year. I have 10 things I am going to share with you today to add to your new years resolutions list for 2021. They don’t have to be crazy, but it’s a great opportunity to let go of some of the bad habits you may have picked up over the year and aim for new goals and ambitions.
If you are going to make a list, I highly recommend writing it down. Having a physical copy of your resolutions makes them more likely to achieved. Another tip I have learned is to make them specific. Instead of “spending more time with my sister,” you can say “spend at least one hour a week with my sister.” This will help you gauge how well you’re doing with your goals. The list I am going to give you is broad, but I encourage you to take one or a few of these new years resolutions and tailor them to your lifestyle and what works for you. Make it fun!
10 Things to Add to Your New Years Resolutions List
- Reduce Screen Time
- It’s definitely easier said than done, but after spending almost a year in ‘quarantine,’ don’t let yourself spend any more time than you need behind the screen. We have a lot to make up for so don’t waste a minute of it. Spend as much time as possible in the real world, with real people, making real memories.
- Make Your Health a Priority
- New Years is usually when everyone heads to the gym and lasts about a month. Don’t let that happen to you. Make long term health goals that will get you through the year. Think past the gym and more about your health as a whole – healthy hair, skin, nails, mindset and diet. It’s way more than exercising.
- Spend More Time With People You Love
- Like I mentioned before, there were so many moments this year where we were unable to be together. Although we still aren’t out of the woods yet, I have a feeling we will be soon and I think it’s so important to make up for lost time and spend time with the people we love the most.
- Cook More
- Cooking has become one of my favorite parts of my daily routine and I am so excited to experiment even more in the new year. It can be intimidating if you’re a beginner, but trust me when I say it is the best. You will be more in tune with what you are putting into your body and who doesn’t want to be able to whip up a fabulous dish for family and friends? Grab yourself a cute apron and get cooking!
- Travel Somewhere New
- Get out of your house and go somewhere you’ve never been before, even if it’s an hour away. There is so much out there to see. Do your research, find somewhere that interests you and take the trip.
- Start a Side Hustle
- Side hustles are my thing. I actually wrote a blog post about easy ways to make money from home. There are so many side hustle opportunities and I believe there is something for everyone. If you’ve been thinking about starting a business, don’t wait any longer – start it! It will be worth it.
- Devote Time Every Week to Self Care
- Self care is so important for your health. Don’t forget to stop and take care of yourself. You should devote time every single week for you. Step away from the hustle and bustle and relax. Your mind and body will thank you.
- Pick Up a New Hobby
- Is there something you’ve always wanted to try but never have? Take the leap. For me personally, I am taking my first ski lesson in January. I’ve never done it before but it’s something my husband and I would like to do together. I also started bullet journaling and it has been so therapeutic for me. What’s something you’ve always wanted to do?
- Volunteer Locally
- There are many ways to get involved in your local community. Do a quick online search and see how you can help in your home town. This is not only a great way to help others, but also to meet people in your area. When it’s safe to do so, my husband and I are planning to get involved in our town and we can’t wait! If you are already involved in your town, look into an international volunteer trip!
- Make Your Bed Every Morning
- I was never a bed-maker until the last couple of months. As soon as I wake up I make the bed every single morning and it is a game changer. Especially since I am now working from home, it helps so much with productivity and just starts the day off right.
