Times are very strange right now and if I’m being honest, I have felt pretty down the last couple of days. I have taken a trip out of Florida almost every month over the last four years and now I am barely even leaving the house. It’s easy to feel trapped. But, after taking a step back I realize I am healthy and safe and I am extremely thankful. I admire our health heroes, frontline workers, essential businesses that are working around the clock and those who are doing everything they can to keep their business afloat. It’s scary!
As a blogger, I consider myself a small business. I know how much hard work it takes to make a small business work. I have a huge space in my heart for local and small businesses. I love family owned ice cream shops and cute little mom and pop shops. It breaks my heart thinking that something like this could totally wipe them off the map. I feel very passionately about doing what I can to help and hope that you might feel that way too. If you don’t know where to start, here are five ways you can show your support.
5 Ways To Support Local Business
Shop – Online or Takeout
You may not be able to physically go into the store but a lot of places are doing takeout or delivery options. Call before you go to see what their process is. A few places I have gone to allow you to come into the counter as long as you keep your distance and others have done curbside pickup.
Buy a Gift Card
If there are no takeout or delivery options, opt for a gift card that you can use later, or give as a gift. This is an easy way to show immediate support and come back to purchase when you are able.
Write a Review
Whether it be on their website, Facebook or Yelp, companies are always looking for reviews. If you’ve been there before and had a good experience, but never got the chance to sit down and write a positive comment, now is a great time to do so. Post on social media too! They love to see that exposure and everyone is spending more time behind their screens right now.
Don’t Ask For a Refund
If it’s a local theatre or play that you have already purchased tickets for, don’t ask for a refund. If you are financially able to, it’s a nice gesture to let them keep the money for the service. It’s not your fault or their fault but it’s a nice thing to do.
Say Thank You
Businesses are really struggling and a simple ‘thank you’ will go a long way. Thank the businesses that work so hard to provide for you; the businesses that you frequently visit, but don’t have the time to stop and show your appreciation. Gratitude is the best attitude!
