One of the most common questions I get on Instagram is how I stay fit. I don’t have a clear answer but I have incorporated specific daily habits into my routine that I believe help me live a healthier life. This will vary for everyone but it’s good to experiment and find out what works best for you.
Research says it takes 21 days to form a habit. If you want to get serious about something, you have to do it every day. Consistency is key. There are certain things that I make sure to do everyday and I’m going to share 3 things that help keep me fit.
3 Habits to Implement into your Daily Routine
1. Develop and Stick to a Consistent Routine
What I have noticed is that ever since I started my current routine, I have cut out some of not-so-good decisions I used to make. For example, I prep my breakfast every night before I go to sleep. I typically eat overnight oats or yogurt with granola almost every day. On the weekends I will sometimes make an egg white and spinach omelette with an avocado.
When I don’t prep my breakfast, I am way more likely to just grab the first thing I see in the fridge. I.E. toast, waffles, cereal, etc. The key to eliminating poor eating decisions is to prepare it when you are in the right mindset (before you get hungry and splurge). This concept applies in everything.
2. Movement
Find a way to move your body every single day. This will look different for everyone, and can also look different depending on the phase of life you’re in. For example, I spent 4 consistent years of my life riding my horse intensively 6 days a week. When I got married, I found a gym and got really interested in barre and yoga. It was a good workout for me physically, but also mentally. During pregnancy, I put more of an emphasis on daily walks. Change it up, find what works and most importantly, do something you enjoy. Here are a couple of examples:
- Morning walk
- Evening Walk
- HIIT session
- Workout at home with resistance bands (here are my favorite)
- Yoga
- Cycling
- Go to the gym
- Dance
- Fitness class
- Swim

3. Balance
I am a big believer in the saying “everything in moderation.” Too much of anything isn’t good for you. I love my vegetables but I also love my ice cream. As long as I’m not eating ice cream every single night, I will be okay. I have heard some people only eat bread on weekends. Set boundaries and keep a healthy balance. That way you stay on track while also getting to indulge every once in awhile.
Habits I Am Working Towards
There are a few things I am really bad at and I’m currently working on improving them.
- Drinking enough water
- Getting enough sleep
- Putting an emphasis on my mental health
- Meditation and breathing exercises
- More stretching
- Setting more defined goals

Creating and keeping a routine is key to exercising. It takes about 2 weeks of doing the same thing every day, to get into a routine, and then it just comes natural.

I am getting ready to start a new exercise program that will not be at the gym. I plan on applying all of the principles you talked about here so that it will be a good lifestyle change. It usually takes me more than 21 days to make a routine habit. But hopefully my sons will help keep me going!

These are all very helpful. It’s so important to prep. I used to do the just eating the first thing I see in the morning thing. But now I just reach in the fridge for the healthy stuff I’ve prepared. Also, your hair is gorgeous!!!
