Life is full of all kinds of people – happy, sad, lost, rich, poor, anxious, and the list goes on. In life, work, or the airplane seat next to you, chances are you are going to encounter all of these people. There’s a quote that I saw the other day and it stuck with me.
“If you hangout with chickens, you are going to cluck, and if you hangout with eagles you are going to fly.”
Dr. Steve Maraboli

The reality is, you get to choose who you surround yourself with. Maybe you got mixed up in the wrong friend group and you find yourself going down a path that you don’t belong on. Don’t worry, it’s happened to all of us. As we get older, we tend to figure out that certain people make us feel a certain way and most likely, you will find joy in positive people.

I will admit that I can be pretty negative at times. I am a big over thinker and a worrier and I think that sometimes leads me to thinking the worst of a situation but I am lucky to have someone in my life who keeps me on the right track. If you follow me on Instagram, you know my long-distance love, Eddie. In our 48-hour weekends to see each other we have encountered set-backs, delays, diverted plane routes and a lot of overpriced flight fees. I don’t know if I have heard him complain once. We just encountered it this past weekend. He flew through the night, got home at 4 a.m., just to turn around and leave for work at 5 a.m.
His outlook on the situation was positive from start to finish and all day I have been reflecting on the last three years. He is such a bright light in my life and so many others. Here are five reasons why I think it’s important to surround yourself with positive people:
- They will keep you grounded
- When you are going down the negative road, they will bring you right back. It happens to me with Eddie a lot. When I overthink it, he reminds me stop and think about the good that can come out of it, and it works.
- They want what’s best for you
- Positive people want what’s best for you because they care about you and they want to see you succeed.
- They will inspire you
- The longer you are around it, the more you will aspire to be it.
- It’s good for your soul
- Consciously or unconsciously it will do good for you to be around someone who is happy and lifts you up.
- It’s contagious
- Pretty soon, you will be positive too!

It’s really important to be surrounded by great and positive people. Because I’m a person that can be overthinking stuff and getting the negativity easily. I believe this is very important for everyone to back away those who aren’t willing to be a positive impact on our life.
