Another year, another birthday. I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like the older I get, the faster my birthday shows up every year. It’s a little scary how time can get away from you. Birthdays are super exciting as a kid. You get to bring a treat in to school to share with your class and sometimes even throw a party. Older people are more likely to complain about another birthday and some even dread them. It does not have to be that way! We are all going to grow old and time is not going to slow down for anyone. Your birthday is a great day to reflect on the last year and set goals for the next year. I have learned so many lessons in my 24 years on earth and I still continue to learn new things every single day.
Over the last year I have done a lot of soul searching. I have realized that life is not a straight path and there’s going to be lots of hills, turns and big bumps. I learned that you can spend four years getting a degree and then find out that’s not really what you really want to do. I have learned that the only person that can change your life is you. Today I started my year long program to become certified as a health coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I have been looking into this for over a year now and finally decided it was time to make the jump. I have always had an interest in nutrition and lead an active lifestyle so I am really excited to see where this journey takes me.
“You’re always one decision away from a completely different life”
24 Lessons I Learned In My 24 Years
- Kindness is not weakness
- Everybody needs to be loved
- Life is not easy for anyone. It requires a lot of hard work and patience.
- You are not alone. There are a lot of people experiencing the same or similar situations that you are.
- Having a routine is just as important as breaking a routine.
- Being uncomfortable is sometimes a good thing
- Talk to people, you will learn a lot
- Travel as much as you can
- Nothing will change unless you change
- If you need to cry, cry
- Say what you feel
- When an opportunity arises, take it
- Look up from your phone
- God will always be your friend
- Parents are usually always right
- Stop caring so much about what others think
- Be yourself, do not copy others
- If you love someone, tell them. Life is fragile.
- If you hate your work, you will hate your life. Find something you are passionate about and let it kill you.
- Stop saying you don’t have time and make time. (Read how I made time for riding here)
- Enjoy the process.
- Take the road less traveled, it’s more fun.
- Do not live by someone else’s rules. It’s your life, make your own rules.
- Be true to yourself and learn to love every moment of this beautiful life.
I hope this post spoke to you and you can take one of these and apply it to your life. Share some lessons you have learned below!
