Drugstore Makeup Kit: Save Money, Look Fabulous

If you’re anything like me, you might find yourself doing your makeup in your car, in the bathroom at the barn or many spots other than your makeup table. Since I have been riding my horse before work, I usually do my makeup in the parking lot outside of work as I am driving in from the barn. It isn’t very convenient, but it allows me to ride my horse and work a full time job. That being said, I am not one to spend a ton of money on the makeup I use, but I still look for high quality makeup at a lower cost. Over the last few years I have been experimenting and this has been my most consistent set of makeup and it can all be found at a drugstore/grocery store. I will link below where you can find them at the lowest price. I do have other makeup that is my “going out” makeup that I rarely ever touch, but this group below fits in a small bag, is convenient for travel and will save you money! Check it out.

1. COVERGIRL® Brow & Eye Makers Brow Pencil & Liner

$3.49 at Target ($4.99 at Walgreens & $5.29 at CVS Pharmacy)

These pencils come in a package of two and they are very natural looking. They do their job and I tend to think they last longer. Grab a pencil sharpener and just keep sharpening until you wear them out. I use the Midnight Brown, but they come in five different colors so try to get what suits you. Makeup professionals say that you should fill in your brow with a shade lighter than what your normal color is, that way you keep your brows looking natural and fabulous.

2. Maybelline® FIT ME!® Concealer

$5.49 at Target ($6.79 at Walgreens & $7.49 at CVS Pharmacy)

Honestly, I never used to understand the purpose of concealer. I used to think it was just another makeup item to buy and didn’t see the need. After trying this, I totally recommend adding this to your everyday makeup routine, especially if you tend to get dark circles around your eyes. All you need to do is put two small dots under your eyes and blend and it will brighten up your whole face. I use sand beige and it is a perfect in between if you are unsure where to start.

3. COVERGIRL® Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner

$4.99 at Target ($7.29 at Walgreens & $6.79 at CVS Pharmacy)

This product is one of my faves because I have had the hardest time finding an eyeliner I like. Maybe I’m just picky? Who knows! I like this eyeliner because it shows up, it is smooth and it is dark. There’s nothing worse than an eyeliner you have to press into your eye to get to show up. This comes in many colors, but I use black onyx and this also comes in waterproof.

4. Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow

$5.89 at Target ($8.79 at Walgreens & CVS Pharmacy)

I wear eye shadow everyday and that has been my thing since high school. For some reason I feel like my eyes look small when I don’t wear it so it is my security blanket. With my green/hazel eye color, this brown is perfect. Try out what works best with your eye color and then go with that. Every time I run out of eye shadow I tend to try a different kind but as of lately, this stuff is the bomb. The color of the palette I use is Addictive.

5. e.l.f. Blending Sponge

$6.00 at Target & Walgreens

There are so many variations of these sponges and they all work the same. I have actually found them at TJ Maxx for $3.99. They are reusable and they work best when you wet them before you use them to apply makeup. I recommend cleaning them regularly and don’t wait until they are too worn to buy a new one. This will ensure you keep your skin as clean and healthy as you can.

6. L’Oreal® Paris Voluminous Original Mascara

$5.89 at Target ($8.49 at Walgreens & $7.79 at CVS Pharmacy)

Another one of my long time favorites. This mascara comes in either an original brush or a curved brush (pictured left) and I highly recommend the curved brush. I saw a huge difference in the way it curves and enhances my lashes. This has my lashes looking long and full. I use the Black 340. I have not experienced any clumping, but rather soft and thicker lashes.  There are many color options and this can also be purchased as waterproof mascara.

7. Maybelline® FIT ME!® Matte + Poreless Foundation

$5.99 at Target ($7.99 at Walgreens & CVS Pharmacy)

Liquid foundation that actually lasts all day! I use 310 Sun Beige but it is important that you find what color is best for you. Like I said, this liquid foundation can be easily applied with the beauty blending sponge and a little goes a long way so you will not find yourself running out of this quickly.

8. COVERGIRL® Cheekers Blush

$3.44 at Target ($3.97 at Walgreens & $4.99 at CVS Pharmacy)

I am a big fan of blush. My mom always said “rosy cheeks make you look healthy.” It is easy to apply too much but a light stroke over your cheekbone will add just what you need to your everyday look. I use the Deep Plum 154 and this small container lasts forever.

9. COVERGIRL® CHEEKERS BRONZER

$3.44 at Target ($5.29 at Walgreens & $4.99 at CVS Pharmacy

Sometimes if I don’t wear blush I just use more of the bronzer in that area. If I do wear blush I apply the bronzer right below my cheek bone. Make the fishy face and apply it where your cheeks are getting sucked in. I also like to apply it around the top of my forehead so it looks a little sun kissed.

There you have it! These all fit into a small makeup bag and are super easy to travel with. Comment below if you have makeup advice for me (I am always looking to try new things) and stay tuned – I will be sharing more beauty secrets with you soon! xoxo
