First of all, welcome to one of the best apps out there. If you don’t have Poshmark, download it and use the invite code SEH1204 and get $10 in Poshmark credit from the start. This app literally changed my life and helped me make over $7.5k selling clothes from my house. No, really – I order boxes to my house, pack them at my house and put them in my mailbox and it is all free. I do want to be straight up with you and tell you that it takes work and in order to see more sales and more money, it takes a lot of patience. These ten pieces of advice are things I learned the hard way and I hope that they help you!
10 Things I Wish I Knew When I Joined Poshmark
1. Engage, comment, like, share, repeat.
I used to think that when I listed a bunch of items, people would see them and buy them and things would be all fine and dandy. Well, that would be too easy now wouldn’t it? The truth is that when an item sits in your closet, people stop seeing it. When you share an item it will show up on your followers’ feed and the more they see it, the more likely they are to see it. Liking and sharing other posher’s pictures will most likely turn into them liking and sharing yours back.
2. Take crisp, clear pictures with a solid background.
This is a big one. I learned this the hard way and I will never ever look back. You don’t need a DSLR camera or a fancy light but you should always use natural light to ensure the color stays original, use a solid background and show all flaws and details as much as you can. Here are some of my before and after pictures.

3. Attend Poshmark parties.
Poshmark has parties which are basically show rooms with a theme. For example, “Best in Tops Party” or “Summer Night Out Party” where you can share clothes that meet the descriptions and everyone in the party will view your items. These are a great place to get exposure and drive traffic to your closet.
4. Always read and follow the Poshmark rules.
Poshmark is now for more than just fashion – it includes home, beauty and accessories. Since expanding into more categories, it means some items are breakable, some items are not allowed to be posted and others must be sold only if it is unopened and in brand new condition. It’s really important to read the rules, and abide by them. This will ensure you don’t encounter any issues or upset the buyer.
5. Be creative with your packing and always write a thank you note.
It took me awhile to do this. I used to toss the item in the box, slap the label on it and send it. One time, I ordered something from someone else on Poshmark and when it arrived it was beautifully wrapped and inside was a small thank you note with pink flowers and It was the feeling of care and thoughtfulness that led me to go on the app and leave a love note and make a note in my head that that posher was worth revisiting.

6. Use USPS boxes – they’re free!
Yep, it’s true. When I started selling, I used to scrounge my house for empty cardboard boxes and ship the items in whatever I could find, whether it was a shoe box or an old kitty litter box. Don’t do that. Go on www.usps.com and order as many boxes in any size you want for free! The best part is that they come right to your front door and you will be in business before you know it.
7. Always include as many details as you can in your descriptions.
When you list items, do it fully. Include the measurements, the material and how it makes you feel. A personal and first-hand voice will give the reader assurance. It’s the worst when you are out and about and you have an interested buyer with questions and you’re not home to find the answers. Have all the answers in the description from the start.
8. Use your computer instead of your phone to engage.
For the longest time I would sit on the app and try to share listings and I felt like it took forever. A year after I downloaded the app I typed in poshmark.com and my life was changed forever. Being able to click and share items is so much faster on the computer and you can get things done way more efficiently.
9. Link your Poshmark to other social media outlets such as Instagram and Pinterest.
Take pictures in your clothes, have a photoshoot with your friends and get those pictures up on your social media. When your followers see you in cute clothes, they will be interested in the where the heck they can get that! Link your Poshmark so that your followers go right to your closet and sales are made!
10. Research brands and prices before you list.
Research is so important when it comes to trying to find the right price. Doing your research will give you a good ball park estimate of what to list your items for. This way you aren’t over or under priced.
I hope these tips help you and your closet. Don’t forget: If you don’t have Poshmark, download it and use the invite code SEH1204 and get $10 in Poshmark credit from the start.

Thanks for the great tips. I am enjoying Poshmark but probably need to take your advice to get more things moving in my closet!
You’re welcome! It took me a long time to grow but now I make sales all the time. These tips are exactly what I did to grow.
Thanks for these helpful tips! I have a question though, many of my items I cannot model as they are bought from garage sales and vary in size. Will this be a problem? And should I wait til I have a certain amount of items to list before “opening my shop”?
One thing you could do is invest in a manequin. You can probably find a cheap one from ebay or Amazon so that way the buyer can at least have a visual of what it looks like on a person. You definitely don’t need to have a certain amount of items on your shop before you open it. I recommend just opening it and start engaging with other closets so that you can start to gain a following. Best of luck!! Let me know if you have any other questions.
One of the best and most informative blogs on Poshmark. Thank you! Very helpful.
Thank you so much! I am glad you found it really helpful.
I am a virtual fashion assistant. I wish I could help all poshers!! So many errors, I see daily. So many ways I can promise a much larger income. Such small easy ways. I sold for posh years ago & it because I know the industry, and what to buy, how to use social media etc… other ladies noticed & started using my ideas lol. Anyway, posh is far too big now. And again, it’s still the same stuff. I am more than happy to help anyone selling clothes. Even free advise. Am I allowed to leave my contact? My personal, not work instagram..is at oordartisty
I am trying to order the boxes at USPS but cannot find the free option. Could you possibly walk me through on how to get them for free from the website?
Hi, yes on the website where it says ‘Shop’ click on ‘Shipping Supplies’ and you can add any boxes or envelopes to your cart and the cost should say $0 at checkout. Let me know if you have any problems with that.
I wanted to look into information and other people experience before starting my “entering” some of clothes to sell. And your 10 comments are super. Thank you very much for your comments, I am not ready yet, but at least with be within a week or two. Again, Thank you.
